The first vintage to be classified Premier Cru. This south-east facing terroir on Vergisson consists of shallow, limestone rich soil and has finally been recognised with elevated status. The wine is made from free run juices vinified in barrels, of which 25% are new. Fermentation finished at the end of November and was followed by 8 months maturation in barrel. A fine interplay between honeyed citrus, creamy poached pears, stony minerality and exotic spice mingles on the complex and intense nose here. The palate follows, with a full array of fruits and spices propped up by bright acidity and chalky structure. Despite the power and intensity, the core is wonderfully framed and harmonious. This tamed powerhouse has fantastic drive and is effortlessly long and expansive on the finish. A stunning example that is well worthy of its new status.
The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche unfurls to reveal notes of citrus oil, pear, crushed chalk and vanilla pod. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's seamless and complete, a deep core of concentrated fruit underpinned by chalky dry extract and tangy acids. Seamless and complete, it's another terrific rendition of this perennial star of the portfolio.
