A powerful and structured pinot that has a linear line running through from the ultra-fine tannins. It’s medium to full body. Fresh acidity with everything in balance and focus. Spicy and flinty at the end. Impressive now but will age beautifully. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Mid ruby-garnet in the glass, the fragrance is immediate and enticing here, layering sweet cherry and bright strawberry fruit with a hit of baking spices and herbs. There is a gamey, savoury tone too that adds a layer of depth. The palate is glossy and fine, the tannins already melting into the fruit to give real approachability. This shows great typicity of place, but with a nod to Burgundy. The fruit is ripe but cool, refined but with a savoury edge. The acids are fresh, incisive, with nothing out of place. Succulent and very moreish, it should be enjoyed over the next 8 years and may well age longer than expected. Akitu continues to go from strength to strength, these are fast becoming some of our favourite Pinots in New Zealand.
